188betַ College to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month

STOCKTON – Bestselling author and poet will share a virtual poetry reading and screenwriter and Stockton native will speak on the importance of storytelling, two events highlighting 188betַ College’s recognition of Latinx Heritage Month.

Salgado, who is Salvadorian American, is the author of three books: "Corazón," "Tesoro," and "Hermosa." She is a 2020 International Latino Book Award winner and body-positive activist. She will speak at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 20. Register at:.

Jorge Ramirez Martinez, a writer for the Netflix show “Selena,” will speak on the subject of telling Latinx stories. 188betַ students who preregister for this event can win a writing journal to get started in telling their own stories.

“We are so excited to once again celebrate Latinx Heritage Month at 188betַ College, with a series of events that will be meaningful for both students and the public,” said Professor Sarah Seekatz, chair of 188betַ’s Cultural Awareness Program and Latinx Heritage Month Committee.

In a third public event, tune in on Tuesday, Oct. 11 (time TBD) for 188betַ College’s annual celebration of Indigenous People's Day.
