STOCKTON -- San Joaquin 188bet备用网址 College trustees have selected longtime Tracy resident and retired 188bet备用网址 College executive assistant Valerie Stewart-Green to serve on the College鈥檚 governing board.
Stewart-Green replaces Trustee Teresa Brown, who passed away on Sept. 11.
The provisional appointment will last until the November 2024 election, when Brown鈥檚 term was set to expire. Stewart-Green represents Area 6, including the communities of Tracy and Mountain House.听
"I'm happy and excited for this opportunity," Stewart-Green said. "I want to make sure that our students have the best opportunities for education and are successful, and that we do what is best for the community.鈥
A resident of Tracy for 26 years, Stewart-Green worked at 188bet备用网址 College for 22 years until her recent retirement. Most of her tenure at 188bet备用网址 was in the President鈥檚 Office where she worked with College administrators and the Board. Stewart-Green has a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco.

"188bet备用网址 College serves a pivotal role in the community, and the Board鈥檚 oversight and guidance is an essential part of that. We will continue to work collaboratively on the shared goal of student success.鈥
Six candidates applied for the open seat and were interviewed at Tuesday evening's special Board meeting. Stewart-Green was then selected and sworn in by Board President Dr. Charles Jennings.听
Under state law, the appointment is provisional. The public has 30 days from the date of the appointment to file a petition, containing a sufficient number of signatures, with the San Joaquin County superintendent of schools in order to require a special election. If no petition is filed, the appointment becomes effective.
