I work using both stoneware and porcelain, making my own slips and glazes, and firing in a soda kiln at my studio. I work on a treadle wheel, but I often find myself altering the circular form into unexpected shapes, slightly varying the lip or the foot to create tension and dynamism. The surface of my pots is created by soda ash during the firing, but I work hard to establish a canvas of opportunity by painting slips and underglazes to create energy and spontaneity while also enhancing the form.
