Visions In Clay 2024

Kevin Eaton (he, him, his)
This is my take on a traditional Greek form, using elements of humor and sexuality to comment on contemporary masculinity.
I鈥檝e been a Los Angeles-based graphic design professional for many years. However, my recent work with ceramics has allowed me to rediscover a creative energy that I hadn鈥檛 enjoyed since my undergrad days at University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Incorporating my love of comic books and science fiction, I create ceramic sculptures that are humorous, thought-provoking, and beautiful. While exploring society鈥檚 reaction to gay sexuality and culture, I've cultivated a somewhat subtle presentation of erotic content. 鈥淚 want the viewer to be drawn in to look, and then either laugh or be horrified.鈥
I couldn鈥檛 have done this earlier in life. I鈥檓 very much a late-in-life ceramist, and all my life experiences have come together, unexpectedly, to enable my creativity in this medium. I鈥檓 both pleased and surprised with the results.
My best friend, a ceramist who died from AIDS years ago, always wanted me to study with him. I was afraid of getting my hands dirty, but now I know that he鈥檚 somewhere out there laughing with me鈥 and at me.听
