March is Women鈥檚 History Month (WHM), a celebration of the contributions and excellence of women/womxn in our history, our culture, and our society. This year 188bet备用网址 College celebrates Womxn Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, in recognition of the national Women鈥檚 History Month Theme. The WHM committee invites you to join us for one or all events commemorating this important observance during the five weeks of March. All events are free and open to the public. Parking is free

LH Horton Jr. Gallery presents: Singing to the Difference: An examination of Surface Strategies

Horton Gallery will celebrate Women鈥檚 History Month with an exhibition of six established women artists and two women guest curators, in an era where all-women鈥檚 shows are still not typical in art galleries and museums. In addition, the artwork in the exhibition does not necessitate a focus on women鈥檚 鈥渋ssues鈥 but rather the making of non-objective art and its formal qualities, as reflected by its title, An Examination of Surface Strategies. Crafting coziness

"Share the Warmth" at the Pride Center

Women鈥檚 history is intricately woven into the fabric of blanket making, with generations of women passing down their skills and stories through the art of creating cozy blankets. Join Pride Center and Foster & Kinship Care Education (FKCE) Program as we put together blankets for听foster youth in our area to receive this fall! Participants will receive sweet treats and be entered in a raffle.

Join 188bet备用网址 College Professor of Psychology Vienna Sa, 188bet备用网址 College Professor of Ethnic Studies Dr. Malika Hollinside, and Fresno City College Professor of History Lorraine Doria for a pivotal discussion on the unique challenges and triumphs of women of color in academia. The discussion will explore the historical marginalization, critique the exclusions of early feminist movements, and tackle ongoing microaggressions. Panelists will also discuss strategies in forging a path towards a more inclusive and equitable academic landscape.

Dolores Huerta Plaza and Scholarship

In December 2018 188bet备用网址 College named the main plaza after Stockton College Alumnus- Dolores Huerta.听

Efforts to recognize Dolores Huerta began when the Women鈥檚 History Month Committee, along with the Office of Student Equity and Diversity, brought Dolores Huerta to campus in February 2018, to screen Dolores. Ms. Huerta spoke to students about the power of higher education.听

Like a Mother Guest Speaker Angela Garbes听

In 2019 the Women鈥檚 History Month Committee, along with the Office of Student Equity and Diversity and the Cultural Awareness Program hosted journalist Angela Garbes. Her talk reviewed the exclusion of women from scientific and medical fields as well as the science of pregnancy, breastfeeding, and labor. A Women and Families Resource Fair followed the event. Ms. Garbes also signed copies of her book, Like a Mother: A Feminist Journey Through the Science and Culture of Pregnancy, for students.听. 听

Ms. Garbes鈥 talk inspired a campus discussion around breastfeeding and the needs of pumping mothers. Student, staff, and faculty mothers are able to use the legally mandated lactation room in the . With a photo ID, you can access the private room (with an electrical outlet and sink) to express breast milk or nurse an infant during their open hours.

The Office of Student Activities hosts six weeks of leadership discussions beginning Feb. 22 and and running every Wednesday (2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5) from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Melissa Muganzo Murphy, Dr. Lonita Cordova, and Dr. Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson are featured speakers.

Document the Impact听Film Screening & Artist Talk

Oakland-based Lokota/Chicana Filmmaker Adreanna Rodriguez presents her award-winning short documentary film 鈥淒ocument the Impact,鈥 which tells the story of female pastoralists from the Maasai tribe in Northern Tanzania, Africa, documenting the impact of climate change through participatory photography. Rodriguez will present the 18-minute film and then participate in an artist talk and Q&A session. 鈥淒ocument the Impact鈥 has earned several awards, including the Jean Rouch Award from the Society for Visual Anthropology Film & Media Festival in 2018. WHM 2022 MIGUEL鈥橲 FUNDRAISER BENEFITING LA RAZA EMPLOYEESMarch 10, 2022

La Raza Employee Association Fundraiser at Miguel鈥檚 in Stockton, All Day

Grab a bite to eat at Miguel鈥檚, located at 7555 Pacific Ave., Suite 5 to benefit scholarships for the La Raza Employee Association that directly benefit students. Miguel鈥檚 is a woman-owned and run business that serves Mexican food made with generational family recipes. If you can鈥檛 make it to Miguel鈥檚, you can donate directly to the scholarship fund. The La Raza Employee Association has awarded more than $80,000 in scholarships since 1992. It鈥檚 most popular fundraiser, the Dia de Los Muertos breakfast, hasn鈥檛 happened since 2019 due to Covid. The money raised will go toward awarding $300 scholarships. Help us meet our goal of raising $1,500 to fund five scholarships.
